There are many things that you can do to emphasise the beauty of your garden, landscaping, beautiful flowers, trees and shrubs and sometimes it still feels like there is missing something. An empty space that just seems wrong or a really tatty old gate that is detracting from your beautiful new beds.

Why not further enhance your garden with some bespoke metal work?

The detail and textural work that can be created with steel is only limited to your imagination, like the iris detail to be found in this contemporary floral themed gate set into a wonderfully kept garden surrounded by flowers and fresh veggies in the summer months is a great example of how steel can be given some real life, energy and movement.

Often times when looking around a garden, particularly a very well groomed garden, some of the most interesting shapes can be found at ground level, so it would not be an odd sight to see Doug looking for inspiration on his knees!

Just like these leaf details on a shrub based gate, the leaflets and fern detailing were found in the rockery crevice, but became the main feature of the gate, as well as it's companion balustrade.

Of course there are other things you may want to do in the garden, like cook! Doug was asked to make a "large BBQ" to be shipped over to the Calvados making region of Normandy, for a client who enjoys entertaining and in particular, outdoor cooking. 

The client dubbed his BBQ, "The Beast" and he absolutely loves it and in the winter, so do the dogs!  

Some times, you may just want to have a partition that helps lead from one portion of the garden into the next, giving a clear demarcation from one area, to the next.

Two side doors leading down the left and right sides of the house respectively, leading from the drive to the gardens in the back. Security doors, do not need to look like prison doors, these were inspired by the flashes of gold used in the work of Gustav Klimpt with the intro duction of brass panel sections, which over time will patina and develop a rich verdigris for contrast.  

​Or a partition for those furry friends in your life, just like this lovely little gate that shows the national flowers of Scotland, the Thistle and of South Africa, the Protea.

Simple can still have some elegant and traditionally styled infill work done without it becoming overly fussy, to truly personalise what may have been an otherwise very plain little gate.

All of these things can be discussed and developed during the design process stages.

Of course, if your garden is on a different level than your house, or patio, you will need a beautiful set of handrails to lead down to your garden.

If your garden is a little more on the grander scale, and you would like to a story, then there is no reason why you cant.
Just like this client that wanted to tell a story and lead you through the gardens, from the rewilded garden, through the apple orchard and down out to the cricket field. In the height of summer, as you walk down the path in the middle of the field, you can here the crickets jumping from stem to stem!

Zoomorphic work is a particular favourite of Doug's to do, little creatures like birds, insects and mice can really add a very interesting and fun aspect to the work you wish to commission. These little creatures give a real wow factor and are always, I have been reliably informed been a major talking point.

​Just like the little mouse and robin on the hanging basket below which, when the flowers are in full bloom adds another dimension altogether to this clients display.
