Basic Blacksmithing Techniques
Ideally suited for those who have had very little experience with tools and the forge. You will learn about the basic H&S aspects of the forge, the fire and how to use it, the material you will be using and the basic techniques that are used on a daily basis by the blacksmith.

A Real introduction to The Basic Techniques of The Traditional Blacksmith
Once you have had your H&S induction into the forge, you are straight into the swing of things! Although this is a basic introduction to the craft, it is still a very full on day. You will be introduced to section change, drawing out, tapering, chiselling, punching, drifting and twisting your material to produce an item or items.
To perform all of these actions you will use the same tools that blacksmiths have been using for centuries, the hammer and tongs, the forge fire and of course the anvil. You will be shown how to use the anvil and its many different facets to forge and form your material into a recognisable object which, once finished is yours to take home.
This is a long day and although we do provide hot drinks like tea, coffee and hot chocolate, cold drinks like juices and water along with some basic cake and biscuits, it is strongly advised that you bring a packed lunch with you.
Please be aware that these courses are sold in pairs so you may not be alone in your experience day, there may be someone else on the course with you, but this is still a very intimate day with plenty of instruction, demonstrations and one to one guidance. If you would like to book as a couple or pair please ensure that there are enough spaces for the two of you.
If you would like a solo experience day, please get in contact with us to discuss your options.
